5 FDA-Approved Weight Loss Medications and How They Help

An image of various pills, medicine bottles, and injection laid out.

Losing weight is often more complex than just “eating less and moving more.” For many, a combination of lifestyle changes and medical support can make a significant difference in achieving sustainable results. If you’ve struggled with weight management despite your best efforts, you’re not alone—and the good news is that science has your back.

For individuals seeking more support, the FDA has approved several drugs to help with weight loss, providing a tried-and-true route. These medications work uniquely to help manage appetite, regulate metabolism, or address underlying factors contributing to weight gain.

At Mobile Care Health, we take the time to get to know you, your health goals, and your lifestyle. Combining FDA-approved weight loss medications with personalized lifestyle recommendations creates a path to healthier, manageable, and sustainable health.

FDA-Approved Weight Loss Medications

FDA-approved medications for managing weight can offer a significant advantage in your journey toward a healthier you. When incorporated into a comprehensive treatment plan, these medications can enhance your efforts beyond what lifestyle changes alone might achieve.

Semaglutide

Semaglutide, approved by the FDA in 2021, has brought notable progress to the field of weight control. This medication, marketed as Wegovy, works with your body by mimicking a hormone that targets areas of your brain involved in appetite regulation. This means you’ll likely feel fuller for longer, making sticking to your nutrition plan easier.

By helping reduce your hunger and boost your energy levels, semaglutide can become a valuable ally in your weight loss journey. You’ll find it available as a weekly injection or in compounded forms, giving you options that fit your lifestyle. It’s worth noting that while Ozempic also contains semaglutide, it’s not FDA-approved specifically for weight loss.

Like any medication, semaglutide may cause side effects, as nausea or alterations in bowel habits. But don’t worry—these effects are usually mild and often improve as your body adjusts. At Mobile Care Health, we’re committed to walking this path with you. We’ll provide close, personalized guidance throughout your treatment, ensuring that semaglutide is not just a medication you take but a tool that works harmoniously with your unique health goals.

Naltrexone

Naltrexone works by blocking opioid receptors in the brain, which are involved in the reward system that drives cravings and emotional eating. Reducing the pleasure of eating high-fat or sugary foods can help curb overeating and foster better control over food choices.

When combined with bupropion, as in the medication Contrave, the two drugs work synergistically. Bupropion enhances dopamine activity, improving mood and energy levels, while naltrexone suppresses cravings and emotional triggers related to eating. Together, they create a powerful tool for managing weight loss.

Naltrexone, either alone or as part of Contrave, is typically prescribed for individuals with a BMI of 30 or higher or for those with a BMI of 27 or higher who also have weight-related health conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes or dyslipidemia. It is especially effective for individuals who struggle with emotional or binge eating, as it targets the psychological components of weight management.

At Mobile Care Health, managing your weight can sometimes feel overwhelming. We’re excited about naltrexone’s potential for many patients, especially when used alongside other treatments like semaglutide. Our approach combines these medications to enhance their effects, carefully tailoring the treatment to your needs and goals.

Tirzepatide

Tirzepatide is an innovative medication that’s changing the game for many people struggling with weight management and type 2 diabetes. Approved by the FDA in 2022, this treatment works uniquely, acting on your body’s GLP-1 and GIP receptors.

Think of it as a friendly helper that mimics your natural hormones, giving you a hand with controlling blood sugar and reducing those pesky hunger pangs. You’ll typically start with a 2.5 mg dose, which you’ll take once a week. We might tweak that dose as your body adjusts to find what works best. The good news? You can schedule your tirzepatide dose at a time that fits your routine if you stick to the same day each week.

Here at Mobile Care Health, we’re excited about how tirzepatide could help you on your health journey. Remember, while tirzepatide can be a powerful ally, it’s just one piece of the puzzle. We’ll work together to create a plan that fits your life, combining this medication with healthy eating habits and movement that you enjoy.

LIV Injections

LIV Injections represent a modern approach to wellness, offering targeted solutions for those seeking to enhance their health and vitality. While “LIV Injections” might encompass a range of therapies, they are often used in contexts like nutritional supplementation, hydration, or regenerative medicine.

These injections may include vital nutrients such as amino acids, vitamins, or other beneficial compounds. They can help replenish depleted stores of essential nutrients like B12, improve energy levels, or even support muscle recovery.

Like with tirzepatide, the key to success with LIV Injections lies in their integration into a comprehensive wellness plan. Our team ensures that each step of your journey is supported with personalized care, ensuring you understand how treatments like LIV Injections fit into your broader health goals.

With a focus on safety and efficacy, we’ll monitor your progress and adjust your care plan as needed. After all, your health journey is about more than just treatments—empowering you to live vibrantly and confidently every day.
